Big-impact special events are part and parcel
of t he t heater of depart ment st ore retailing. And t hey are t ypical
across Federated from t he lighting of t he Rich’s Great Tree and t he
Holiday Star at The Bon M arché t o t he legendary Passport fashion
shows put on by M acy’s West t o support AIDS prevent ion and
t reatment . Equally import ant are hundreds of smaller event s held at
all of our stores each year, designed t o stimulate sales and build
cust omer and communit y loyalt y as we leverage our invest ment s in
st ore and merchandise brands.
It ’s significant t hat every Federat ed regional department store division
will have a promotional Internet sit e in place by t he end of 2001.
These sites w ill support sales and events, educat e cust omers, drive
st ore t raffic and generat e sales opport unities in a manner t hat
support s our st ore brands. And we will continue t o develop
multi- channel marketing programs, such as an online companion t o
t he M acy’s parade, a fun- filled Greendog web sit e f or kids, and a
syst em of permission- based e- mail communicat ions t o t echnology-
savvy cust omers.
Federat ed’s partnership w ith WeddingChannel.com has resulted in a
fully integrat ed nationw ide clicks and bricks bridal regist ry t hat
combines t he convenience and geographic reach of the Int ernet wit h
t he personal touch of in- store shopping. In t he fut ure, we expect t o
use emerging t echnology t o develop niche opportunit ies for selling
merchandise, such as special sizes and unusual it ems, not t ypically
found in our st ores.
