People and organizations become what they are because
of events they have experienced, the decisions they’ve made and their goals
for the future. Navy Federal and the members we serve share many traditions
and common hopes for the future.
Providing excellent member service, oering products that deliver value
and remaining true to our principled approach to conducting business are at
our foundation. By remaining true to our traditions, Navy Federal was able
to succeed in 2009 while othernancial institutions were buffeted by the
unsettled economy.
Member confidence in the safety and soundness of their credit union was
demonstrated by the influx of nearly $4 billion in new deposits. Navy Federals
commitment to operating in ascally sound manner stood in strong contrast
to the economic news that dominated headlines in 2009.
Service levels were improved across all member touch points. Ten new
branches were opened, many near military installations, bringing our world-
wide total to 180. Mobile banking was readied for launch and new features
such as an improved mortgage application were added to Navy Federal
Online® Account Access. We were able to quickly answer over 17 million
calls from members, an increase of 1.2 million. And, members serving at
Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, Africa, now have access to a Navy Federal ATM.
Many of Navy Federals most popular services are available at no cost to
members. Our free Web Bill Pay service experienced 17% growth in 2009
and members made over 17 million payments through this online channel.
Over 2.7 million members manage their finances using Account Access,
another free service. Instead of writing checks, members are increasingly
using their free Visa® Check Card. In 2009, nearly 300 million transactions
were made.
