UBISOFT ANNUAL REPORT 2009
ma n a G e m e n t r e p o r t 01
2007-2009: A true creator
Ubisoft built on its reputation as a key player: the Group became the third largest independent publisher, with the number of
multimillion-selling brands rising from 10 to 17.
To sustain this growth, Ubisoft focused more on the international market in 2007, opening a development studio in China (Chengdu)
and acquiring the Digital Kids studio in Japan. Ubisoft acquired the Tom Clancy name for video games and ancillary products,
as well as the Anno® brand. It also launched the Game For Everyone (G4E) label.
Similarly, Ubisoft prepared for the convergence of the entertainment industry by opening a rst digital image production studio
in Canada at the beginning of 2007.
Ubisoft and 20th Century Fox teamed up to create a video game based on "Avatar", the upcoming James Cameron movie.
In 2008, the acquisition of a second studio specialising in special effects for lm and advertising (Hybride) conrmed the Group’s
ambitions to converge video-entertainment and cinematography. This supported the acquisition of four new studios dedicated
to video games development: Action Pants in Vancouver (Canada), Southlogic® in Porto Alegre (Brazil), Massive Entertainment®
(Sweden) and a studio in Pune (India).
