ideas and leverage the experiences of the others. Any such large-scale change is difficult, of course,
but we are already seeing a greater synergy of effort across disciplines, better financial perf o r m a n c e ,
and not least, the growth of our people in new and satisfying ways.
To help us better support our customers around the world, we also re o r g a n i zed our sales force fro m
what was essentially a domestic/international model to one that more accurately segments our mark e t s
into Europe, the Americas, Asia/Pacific, and Japan. This new model allows us greater flexibility and
focus in understanding the different needs of our many and diverse customers, and enables us to be
more responsive in supplying them with the products and solutions they require.
Growing markets, growing success.
In keeping with our strategy of providing users with best-of-b r eed products in high-growth categories,
Symantec focused on several areas in fiscal 1996 that promised especially attractive opport u n i t i e s .
In Nove m b e r 1995, for example, we completed the acquisition of Delrina Corporation. As customers
for De l r i n as and Sy m a n t e cs products had complementary needs, this strategic acquisition prov i d e d
a merging of re s o u rces that now gives us an extremely strong, unified presence in the burgeoning
communications arena.
By far the most visible product event of the past year was the Companys launch of Wi n d ows 95-
specific utility products in conjunction with Mi c ro s o f ts introduction of that operating system in Au g u s t
1995. To help make the migration to Wi n d ows 95 as seamless as possible for users, Symantec undert o o k
the most ambitious internal product and marketing development effort in the Companys history. Un d e r
the theme From Day On e, we began working in 1993 with Mi c rosoft and our reseller and end- u s e r
partners to develop software that would complement and enhance the new operating system.
In March 1995, a full five months before the Windows 95 launch, we released a highly successful
p re v i ew version of our No r ton Utilities for Wi n d o ws 95 software. And on August 28th, two we e k s
b e f o re the operating systems worldwide debut, our No r ton Utilities, No rton AntiVi r us, and No rt o n
Navigator products were available in 6 languages.
