Loan portfolio diversity
Concentration of credit risk may arise when the ability
of a number of borrowers or counterparties to meet their
contractual obligations are similarly affected by external
factors. Diversification of credit risk is a key concept by
which we are guided.
In assessing and monitoring for credit risk concentration,
we aggregate exposures by product type, industry and
geographic area as presented in the tables below. Exposures
are measured at exposure at default (‘EAD’), which reflects
drawn balances as well as an allowance for undrawn
amounts of commitments and contingent exposures, and
therefore would not agree to the financial statements.
