24 McDonald’s 2005
Since the days of
founder Ray Kroc,
involvement in the
community has been
—and continues to
bea cornerstone
of McDonald’s
business approach.
AT McDONALD’S, giving back through philanthropic
activities, such as the support of the Ronald McDonald
House Charities, Inc., has always been an essential part
of who we are. Our involvement also includes concern
for our restaurants’ environmental and economic
impacts, as well as our role in working with our suppliers
and business partners to further their social, environ-
mental and animal welfare policies and programs.
McDONALD’S TAKES PRIDE IN HAVING BEEN
RECENTLY ADDED TO THE DOW JONES
SUSTAINABILITY INDEX, a highly selective list of indus-
try leaders in corporate responsibility. This recognition
was awarded, in part, because our policies and
performance in a wide range of areas help enhance
long-term shareholder value. This recognition reflects
McDonald’s rich heritage of doing what is right and
providing leadership on issues where we can make a
difference.
BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN
AN IMPORTANT PRIORITY for McDonald’s. In response
to the devastation caused by hurricanes Katrina and
Rita in 2005, the Company donated $5 million to
support relief efforts. We leveraged the strength of
our unique System to assist more than 2,000 affected
employees of owner/operators, suppliers and the
Company. These efforts reflect the powerful impact of
the McDonald’s System coming together to benefit
communities in need.
AS WE WORK to conserve our energy consumption,
reduce our packaging, collaborate with suppliers and
invest in the community through jobs, purchases and
civic leadership, we are adding value to the communi-
ties in which we do business. At McDonald’s, we are
always striving for continuous improvement in all we do.
WE INVITE YOU to read more about our social
responsibility initiatives in our most recent Worldwide
Corporate Responsibility Report available at
