2004 was a year of rebuilding for KFC. The KFC team was aggressive with its plan—installing new
menuboards in every restaurant, adding new products to the menu and launching a new advertising
campaign:“ChickenCapitalUSA.”
We’realsoproudtohavebroughtbackoneofourmostimportanticonstoourrestaurants—theBucket.
Introduced in 1957 by Colonel Harland Sanders and KFC’s first franchisee, Pete Harman, the bucket
symbolizestheheartandsoulofourbrand.
KFCalsospenttheyearorganizingaroundarestaurantreadinessprocesstobuildapipelineofproducts
andpromotionsthatwillyieldpositiveresultsin2005andbeyond.Thefirstpromotiontocomethrough
therestaurantreadinessprocesscameinDecemberwithournewVarietyBucket.Justasitsnamesuggests,theVarietyBucket
gives customers a variety of chicken choices—our famous Kentucky Fried Chicken, Strips and Popcorn Chicken—in one
bucket.ThispromotionhelpedKFCendtheyearwithmomentumleadinginto2005.
OntheoperationssideKFCmadeimprovementsinspeedthatbumpedupthebrandtobeingnamedtheeighthfastestdrive-
thruinAmerica,accordingtoQSRMagazine.HarveyBrownleejoinedKFCinNovemberasChiefOperatingOfficerandbrought
arenewedfocustobuildingthebrandthroughbetteroperations.UnderHarvey’sleadership,wearenowtestingsimplifiedback
ofhousesystemstohelpimprovespeedandefficiencies.HarveyisalsoleadingoureffortstocontinuetogrowKFCthrough
multibrandingwithourYum!partners.
