ONE FORD -
FIVE GLOBAL PLATFORMS
Production of the all-new Ford Focus marked the launch
of a more flexible manufacturing model for Ford. This
combination engineering and product development model
enables us to make more efficient use of vehicle platforms
globally. We can build multiple models on one or more
platforms in one plant, responding quickly to customer
needs and preferences with minimal retooling.
We shared our vision for a new generation of vehicles
from a common global platform, and we are delivering on
that promise. We are demonstrating the possibilities of
this new global approach as it transforms the core of
the Ford product lineup around the world.
By mid-decade just five vehicle architectures – the
B, C, CD, compact pickup and full-size commercial van
platforms – will comprise about 75 percent of Ford
sales worldwide.
This year, the new C segment platform will account
for more than 2 million units of sales, providing
unprecedented economies of scale and an opportunity to
offer customers around the world new technologies and
product features usually reserved for premium vehicles.
The global Ford Focus has adopted common global
manufacturing processes. Plants building Focus are
located in Wayne, Michigan; Saarlouis, Germany;
Vsevolozhsk, Russia; and Chongqing, China.
