means business.
McDONALD’S IS
the world’s leading food service organization.
We generate more than $40 billion in Systemwide sales. We operate over 30,000
restaurants in more than 100 countries on six continents. We have the benefits
that come with scale and a strong financial position. We own one of the world’s
most recognized and respected brands. We have an unparalleled global infrastruc-
ture and competencies in restaurant operations, real estate, retailing, marketing
and franchising. We are a leader in the area of social responsibility. We actively
share our knowledge and expertise in food safety and are committed to protecting
the environment for future generations. Yet, we have not achieved our growth
expectations for the past several years. So, our challenge is to leverage our
strengths to profitably serve more customers more ways more often.
McDonald’s also is a local business. We operate
neighborhood restaurants. Our owner/operators and local
restaurant management teams and staffs typically live in
the communities in which they work. We serve delicious
meals and snacks to customers who live, work, shop and
play in the neighborhoods in which we operate. We host
birthday parties for local youngsters. We also give back to
our friends and neighbors through local community
involvement and by being there with a helping-hand in
times of need.
On a typical day, we serve more than 46 million cus-
tomers. Yet, we serve one customer at a time.
Everyday, McDonalds touches the lives of millions and
millions of people. And every moment is a McDonald’s
moment somewhere in the world.
Despite the challenges we are facing, we also have successes. The stories that
follow speak to some of the things that are working at McDonald’s around the
world. They provide insights into the demand that exists for McDonalds today,
what were doing to bring new and existing customers to our restaurants tomor-
row and how we intend to build the business for the long term. They are stories
about our global business and our neighborhood restaurants.
