72 million
patients receive health care services
each year from Walgreens
Walgreens is well-positioned to meet our customers’
pharmacy, health and wellness needs, with a range of
quality, affordable and accessible solutions unmatched
in the industry.
Our service offerings include retail, mail and online pharmacy; in-store
Take Care Clinics; employer worksite health centers; hospital pharmacy
services; specialty pharmacy; home infusion services; and pharmacy benefit
solutions. As well, we are focused on clinical outcomes and analytical
information to demonstrate the value of our health care services and
solutions in providing customized programs for clients.
With our pharmacy, health and wellness solutions under one umbrella,
Walgreens has restructured our client service and sales organization to
provide relevant and convenient solutions for employers, health plans,
pharmacy benefit managers, health systems and government agencies.
And we have integrated the broad range of services and capabilities we offer.
For example, patients with chronic and complex conditions, such as cancer
and rheumatoid arthritis, are centrally served with prescriptions filled
through mail service or community pharmacies, and through our infusion
pharmacies. As the sector grows, Walgreens is enhancing specialty pharmacy
services to provide expanded patient support and care, and more convenient
ways for patients to receive the medications they need. For some specialty
medications, those options now include face-to-face service from our
community pharmacists.
With the largest network of home infusion services in the country, Walgreens
provides solutions for patients needing infusion, respiratory services and
oxygen at home or in other ambulatory settings. In September 2010,
the Company announced our agreement to acquire substantially all of
the assets of Omnicare’s home infusion business, further expanding our
capability to provide high-quality, community-based health care services.
Walgreens is expanding our program to enable patients to receive 90-day
supplies of chronic medications from their local pharmacist. This program
saves money for patients and payers through lower prescription dispensing
costs and gives patients additional choice. Compared with the alternative
of receiving 90-day supplies of medications by mail, this program improves
medication adherence and utilization
for patients, while they continue to enjoy
the familiarity and convenience of
receiving their medication and advice
from a Walgreens pharmacist at their
community drugstore.

Jay, a manufacturing engineer at Cummins,
appreciates the convenience of the worksite
clinic. “I live 70 miles from the office,” says
Jay. “Having a health clinic here means I don’t
have to take a vacation day to visit a doctor.”
