Jared Kitch (center), in Gilbert, Arizona,
was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis two
years ago. Since then, he has received
monthly packages from the Walgreens
specialty pharmacy in Portland, Oregon,
with medication and equipment for his
daily self-injections. Walgreens makes it
so easy for me, that I don’t have to worry
about anything,” says Jared. The patient
care coordinators are great at handling
all the paperwork and making sure I get
my medications on time.” By providing
solutions to help Jared manage his
condition, Walgreens gives him more time
to spend with his family and focus on his
job as information technology manager
for a Phoenix law firm.
2010 Milestones
Walgreens is the nations largest drugstore chain,
with fiscal 2010 sales of $67 billion. The Company
has 244,000 employees.
This is the Company’s 36th consecutive year of record
sales. It’s also the 35th consecutive year Walgreens
has raised its quarterly dividend paid every quarter
since 1933.
The Company returned $2.2 billion to shareholders
in the fiscal year in the form of dividends and
share repurchases.
Walgreens was named to Fortune magazine’s list of
Most Admired Companies in America for the 17th
consecutive year, and was ranked 32nd on the
Fortune 500 list of the largest U.S.-based companies.
The Company acquired 258 Duane Reade stores across
the New York City metropolitan area. Other acquisitions
included 12 Eaton Apothecary pharmacies in the Boston
area; 25 Snyder’s Drug Stores in Minnesota; and 17 Ike’s
and Super-D drugstores in the Memphis area.
Walgreens 2009—10 seasonal flu shot campaign was
named the best corporate campaign by the National
Influenza Vaccine Summit. Walgreens and Take Care
Clinics provided 5.4 million seasonal flu shots and
2 million H1N1 vaccinations.
The Company launched the Walgreens Optimal Wellness
program, a self-care educational program for patients
with chronic medical conditions. The program is initially
focusing on type 2 diabetes.
Fast Company magazine ranked Walgreens as the 6th
most innovative health care company for leadership
in health care services.
