Saudi Arabia
Schneider Electric's Riyadh plant (EPS Ltd)
employs 350 people. It manufactures MV/LV
Merlin Gerin and Square D electrical distribution
products and equipment such as Prisma, Blokset
and Model 6 switchboards, Compact NS molded-
case circuit breakers and Masterpact air circuit-
breakers, RM6, Ringmaster, SM6, MCset and
Fluair 400 cubicles.T he Riyadh plant delivers
Schneider Electric products to Saudi Arabia
and to other Arabian Peninsula markets.
T he site has been ISO 9002 certified since 1996
and is a reference for major customers such
as SCECO, electrical utilities and Aramco,
one of the largest companies in the oil industry.
Spain
T he Burgada (Pamplona) plant, one of the eight
production sites in Spain, is ISO 9002 and ISO 14001
certified and employs 173 people. Its main industrial
activity centers on the production of industrial
control components such as Telemecanique
push-buttons, signaling lights, safety auxiliaries and
contactors for the Spanish and worldwide markets.
T he Burgada plant, like all Schneider Electric
manufacturing units in Spain, has been engaged
in a continuous improvement plan for the past
two years to continuously improve the performance
of service provided to customers.
T his approach is now fully integrated into daily
work activities and has resulted in an increasingly
higher number of projects to be initiated, such as the
setup of a process-driven organization based on

three indicators:
customer service, productivity and commitments
on development lead times.
Brazil
T he Sumaré plant in Brazil employs 160 people
and produces MV products and MV/LV
equipment such as Blokset switchboards
and Merlin Gerin SM6, RM6, MCSet cubicles.
T he Sumaré plant also manufactures prefabricated
busbar trunking and supplies the entire
Telemecanique Canalis line for the Brazilian and
Argentinian markets.T he Sumaré plant includes
the entire Blokset international technical
management team and is in charge of this range
of LV switchboards for all Schneider Electric
subsidiaries and partners around the world.
T he action plans undertaken within the framework
of Schneider 2000+ are starting to bring results.
At the end of 1999, the Sumaré plant showed
considerable improvement in terms of cost
reductions. In addition, sales lead times
are expected to be cut in half by the end of 2000.
T he plant has been ISO 9001 certified since
1994, and its objective for 2000 is to obtain
ISO 14001 certification.
T here are three other Schneider Electric manu-
facturing sites in Brazil: Carmo do Rio Verde
(industrial control and automation and LV power
products), Jurubatuba (distribution center)
and Itajai (high voltage). In 2000, a new plant
close to Sao Paulo will accomodate the final
low voltage activity.
