Associate opportunity. As Walmart grows, we bring more than jobs to a community. We offer millions of
people the opportunity to build long-term careers. Benefits are competitive in each country. We recruit U.S.
military veterans and help transition active-duty personnel to civilian jobs. Our associate roles are being redesigned
to create clear career paths. In India, for example, the Bharti Walmart Training Center prepares rural youth for jobs
in retail and related industries.
Sustainability. As the world’s largest retailer, Walmart has unparalleled opportunities to reduce environmental impact,
conserve natural resources and sell more sustainable products. In fiscal 2010, we reduced our global plastic bag
consumption by more than 16 percent, and continued to improve the efficiency of our U.S. truck fleet. By collabo-
rating with suppliers and the Sustainability Consortium on our Sustainable Product Index, we will drive product
innovation, increase supply chain transparency, and create a single source for product sustainability. This year, we
committed to reduce 20 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in our supply chain by the end of 2015.
Responsible sourcing. Customers count on us to work with suppliers who share our commitment to high
ethical and social responsibility to help ensure products we sell are safe and have the quality to stand the wear
and tear of families’ busy lives. It is critical that sourcing decisions reflect our values and demonstrate respect for
workers throughout the supply chain. Because our global sourcing efforts are so important, we continue to drive
standards consistent with the Global Social Compliance Program and work collaboratively with suppliers and
other industry stakeholders.
Community involvement. Our passion for serving our local communities is woven into the fabric of Walmart’s
culture through associate volunteerism and donations. We act quickly to support areas impacted by natural disasters
such as the Haiti and Chile earthquakes. This past year, Walmart, our Foundations, associates and customers, supported
organizations worldwide with $624 million in charitable contributions. We strive to increase our community impact
globally. For example, in a number of countries, Walmart and CARE help empower women to achieve more
equitable, consistent incomes. We work with farmers and small manufacturers in South and Central America to
increase efficiency, improve supply chain processes, and link them to the global marketplace.
