Pictures Group
Pictures Group sales rose 37.8 percent to ¥439 billion
($3,536 million), or 7.8 percent of consolidated sales.
Results benefited from growth in the U.S. TV program
production and distribution businesses as well as signifi-
cantly higher sell-through video revenues worldwide.
Licensing agreements involving the filmed entertainment
library of Sony Pictures Entertainment were another
source of sales growth. The enormous success of
Jerry
Maguire
at the U.S. box office was one more contributor
to sales.
Revenues from Insurance and Financing increased 9.0
percent to ¥252 billion ($2,032 million), representing 4.4
percent of consolidated sales. The growth in revenues
was mainly attributable to expansion of business opera-
tions at Sony Life Insurance Co., Ltd., a consolidated sub-
sidiary in Japan.
