under the consolidated tax filing system beginning with the year ending March 31, 2004. Under the Japanese
consolidated tax filing system, a 2% surtax will be imposed only for the year ending March 31, 2004. As a
result, the statutory tax rate will be approximately 44% for the year ending March 31, 2004.
For the year ending March 31, 2005, a corporation size-based enterprise tax will be introduced which will
supersede the current enterprise tax. As a result, the statutory tax rate for the year ending March 31, 2005 will
be approximately 41% effective April 1, 2004. The respective newly enacted rates were used in calculating the
future expected tax effects of temporary differences as of March 31, 2003. The effect of the changes in the tax
rates on the balance of deferred tax assets and liabilities was insignificant.
