Since the March 1999 announcement of our program to build a new group architecture for
Sony in the 21st century, we have been making steady progress. To bolster and realign the
Electronics business, during the year under review, we established the Home Network Company,
the Personal IT Network Company, the Core Technology & Network Company, and the
Communication System Solutions Network Company to develop and introduce competitive
products and services. At the same time, to strengthen further these autonomous Network
Companies, we have transferred management authority to them. And, we have been focusing
increasingly on our key businesses, as illustrated in the cellular phone business in North America,
where we have currently discontinued engineering, sales, and marketing activities but continue
SONYS NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM
Assuming shareholder approval, the appointments will become official
at the meeting of the Board of Directors to be held immediately after the Ordinary General Meeting of
Shareholders to be held on June 29, 2000.
