10 Sysco Corporation
What We Do
Sysco is the global leader in marketing
and distributing food products to res-
taurants, healthcare and educational
facilities, hotels and inns, and other
foodservice and hospitality businesses.
Although we do not grow anyfood or
own any restaurants, we provide the
path that connects these two ends of
the foodservice chain.
Since our beginning in 1969, we have
founded our success on quality prod-
ucts, strong customer relationships,
operational excellence and great people.
This formula has enabled us to build
afinancially strong company and
continue to reinvest in the business.
Our K nowledge of the Industry
Our breadth of understanding of the
foodservice industry comes from our
long history of working side-by-side
with every size and type of constituent
in the foodservice industry from
national restaurant chains and insti-
tutional foodservice providers to small
restaurant owners, from large agri-
cultural food producers to small local
farmers, from family-owned suppliers
to major branded food manufacturers.
Were in the fields and in the kitchens.
We use this knowledge to be a resource
for our customers, providing not just
products, but business solutions. Our
business review process, in which we
sit down with customers to understand
their needs and offer the advice and ser-
vices that will support their success, is
unmatched in the foodservice industry.
How We Operate
Each year, Sysco delivers more than
1billion cases of food and related prod-
ucts to more than 400,000 customers
in the United States, Canada and around
the world. We serve these customers
through a network of local operating
companies complemented by specialty
business groups.
Broadline
Our 94 locally focused broadline operat-
ing companies, distribute a wide range
of Sysco brand and other food and non-
food products to both independent and
chain restaurant customers and other
foodservice locations ranging from
sports arenas to healthcare and educa-
tional facilities. Our local marketing
associates work closely with our cus-
tomers to identify and meet their needs.
SYGMA
Our 20 SYGMA operating locations
focus exclusively on certain chain res-
taurant locations. Centralized functions
allow SYGMA to work closely with the
corporate purchasing systems of
national and regional chains.
Specialty Companies
We meet the needs of customers who
are looking for specialized and differen-
tiated products through our specialty
meat and produce companies. Our lodg-
ing industry products company distrib-
utespersonal care guest amenities,
equipment, housekeeping supplies,
room accessories and textiles to the
lodging industry.
Sysco’s relentless commitment to its
customers helped us deliver record net
earnings in fiscal 2010. Our operating
performance and the strength of our
balance sheet provide us with access
to capital to continue investing in our
business even during difficult eco-
nomic times and take advantage of
opportunities to optimize and profit-
ably grow our business.
