Record free cash flow of EUR 2 billion
Operating cash fl ow stood at EUR 1,734 million in 2009. Excellent working
capital management reduced working capital requirement, freeing up
EUR 813 million. Net capital spending totalled EUR 576 million. Free cash
fl ow grew by 13.6% to a record EUR 1,971 million, refl ecting good cash
management in a diffi cult environment.
This strong cash generation allowed the Group to reduce its net debt by 38%
to EUR 2,812 million and strengthen the balance sheet.

of the par ent
Adjusted net profi t (1) came to EUR 1,060 million, down 41% from 2008. Net
profi t attributable to equity holders of the parent totalled EUR 852 million and
included EUR 313 million in restructuring expenses and EUR 122 million in
impairment of goodwill and intangible assets. Earnings per share came to
EUR 3.43.
(1) Net profit attributable to equity holders of the parent adjusted for exceptional
restructuring costs (more than EUR 100 million), exceptional pension-related
gains and losses and impairment of goodwill and intangible assets, taxed
atthe underlying rate for the period.
