SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION
A dedicated organisation
The Sustainable Development Department, created in 2002, was
made part of the Strategy & Innovation D epartment in 2008.
James Ross, a member of the Supervisory Board of Schneider
Electric SA, has been assigned on behalf of the Board to develop
specific expertise in the area of sustainable development and
environmental and social risks.
Six working groups
Six working groups set objectives and track action plans.
The Sustainable Development Strategy
Committee
This Committee, created in 2008 and chaired by the Senior Vice-
President of Sustainable Development, comprises representatives
from the following functions and programmes :
Health/Safety, Diversity, Social Innovation, Environmental
Management, Sustainable Line-up, RoHS and Reach programmes ,
Purchasing, Supply Chain, Ethics, Energy Access programme ,
Communication and Stakeholder Relations.
The Ethics Council
The Ethics Council, chaired by the Executive Vice President, Strategy
& Innovation was offi cially created in June 2009. It is responsible for :
defi ning the level of governance for ethics issues;
leading discussions on the Group’s commitments, principles of
responsibility and values, defi ning good practices;
ruling on breaches of the code of ethics.
The Environmental Council
The Council is made up of representatives from all the corporate
departments who meet quarterly to discuss cross-functional issues
and promote deployment of appropriate measures across the Group.
The Council also devotes signifi cant time to monitoring environmental
issues at both the eco-design and eco-production levels (see
Environmental performance, page 45 ).
The Societal Performance Committee
The President of Schneider Electric France chairs the Societal
Performance Committee, which was set up in April2009. The
Committee is organised and led by the Senior Vice-President of
Sustainable Development and includes representatives from Human
Resources, Environmental Affairs, Customer Relations and Societal
Innovation.
The Committee meets twice a year to defi ne the framework for an
ambitious, consistent societal policy, to devise measures for socially
responsible action and to establish effective relationships among the
people involved in these policies.
