January
Cabela’s begins 2006 with the roll-out of
several new initiatives intended to improve
operating effi ciencies across all channels.
These initiatives include an intensive sales
training and product knowledge program
for sales-related employees, the replacement
of existing order/purchase fulfi llment
systems with a new replenishment system
and implementation of Plan-O-Gramming
software to improve the merchandising
process for Cabela’s retail stores.
February
Cabela’s sells $215 million of senior notes in
a private placement to qualifi ed institutional
buyers. Proceeds from the offering were
used for new retail store expansion,
including capital expenditures, purchase of
economic development bonds and general
corporate purposes.
March
Cabela’s is honored with the 2006 Grace
Abbott Award, presented by the Nebraska
Children and Families Foundation, for
exceptional service and commitment to
helping Nebraska children and families.
Criteria for the business award also include
a commitment to helping employees balance
work and family life.
World’s Foremost Bank celebrates the fi ve-
year anniversary of its founding. Starting in
2001 with only 97 employees, WFB has
grown to 485 employees.
April
The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance unveils the
Cabela Lifetime Business Achievement
Award, which will honor future contributors
to America’s sporting heritage while honoring
Jim, Dick and Mary Cabela, co-founders
of Cabela’s.
May
Cabela’s partners with U.S. Bank to
introduce the Cabela’s Visa Check Card,
which rewards cardholders with Cabela’s
points for signature (non-PIN) based
purchases. These points are then redeemable
for merchandise at Cabela’s.
July
Cabela’s opens its fi rst store of the year in
Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix.
Cisco Systems announces a benchmark
study of new trends in online shopping sites.
Cabela’s earns high marks for best shopping
experience, edging out other retail giants such
as Best Buy, Costco, Target and Wal-Mart.
Cabela’s is presented the Take Me Fishing
Retailer of the Year award by the American
Sportfi shing Association and the Recreational
Boating and Fishing Foundation.
