mother glass substrate. Having secured a
supply of LCD panels through S-LCD and
the joint venture with Sharp, we expect to
be assured of a steady volume of LCD
panels in a broad range of sizes, enabling
us to establish a stable, cost-competitive
procurement structure.
BRAVIA LCD televisions play a central role
in our “HD World” initiative. Going forward,
we will continue to promote the “HD World”
by offering a variety of hardware, as well as
movies and other HD content, all of which
share a common link—the LCD television.
This will enable us to deliver powerfully vivid
and detailed HD images that will inspire an
increasing number of users.
The key to realizing the world of HD envi-
sioned by Sony is high-quality HD content.
In the area of broadcasting equipment and
other professional-use devices, we are
introducing a vast array of cutting-edge HD
equipment especially for the production of
HD programming that addresses the needs
of professional users. Sony HD cameras and
videotape recorders have already been
adopted by broadcasters around the world
and are being used to generate an unprec-
edented array of high-quality HD content.
We have also released professional-use
products that respond to the random access
and other needs of the digital age, including
XDCAM camcorders, which use optical
disc recording media, and the XDCAM EX,
which uses a memory card. Also, we have
developed HD solutions for customers in a
