For the fiscal years ended March 31, 2014, 2015 and 2016, total realized impairment losses were
1,806 million yen, 949 million yen and 3,566 million yen, respectively.
At March 31, 2016, Sony determined that the decline in value for securities with unrealized losses shown in
the above table is not other-than-temporary in nature.
8. Leases
Sony leases certain communication and commercial equipment, plant, office space, warehouses, employees’
residential facilities and other assets. Certain of these leases have renewal and purchase options. Sony has also
entered into capital lease arrangements with third parties to finance certain of its motion picture productions, as
well as sale and leaseback transactions for office buildings, machinery and equipment.
