Pensions and postretirement benets other than pensions
Change in accounting policy
As a result of the change in the pension accounting policy by adopting the option available under IAS 19 paragraph 93A, previously unrecognized
actuarial gains and losses are recognized in full and recorded in the Statement of recognized income and expenses (Sorie). IFRIC 14, which was
early adopted on January 1, 2008, claried the extent to which a dened-benet asset could be recognized in the nancial statements. The
combined impact of these two changes in accounting policy at January 1, 2006, reduced the overall net pension liability recognized in the nancial
statements by EUR 1,216 million (pre-tax). The nancial quantication of this change is disclosed in the following table:
