The average number of persons employed in the continuing operations of the Group during the year, excluding temporary staff, was 197,100
(2007 – 157,200; 2006 – 142,600); on the same basis the discontinued operations employed 32,200 (2007 – 13,300; 2006 – nil). The average number
of temporary employees during 2008 was 7,000 (2007 – 4,900). The number of persons employed in the continuing operations of the Group at
